EU & UK: Barley prices up sharply as Scandinavia dryness concerns are mounting
EU barley prices are up sharply as dryness concerns in Scandinavia are mounting, and a lack of rain in France may impact the final filling of spring malting barley, RMI Analytics reported this week.
The UK crop remains good and the French winter barley crop is developed enough to avoid a negative impact.
UK exports of feed and malting barley are expected to remain at elevated levels and these exports may increase further if Danish barley continues to suffer. In addition, in Denmark it should be noted that some sizeable barley volumes were sold by farmers earlier in the year and now with these mounting crop concerns there will be no further selling, the analysts said.
